Goodbye 2016 and Hello 2017

Goodbye 2016 and Hello 2017

I hope each and everyone of you had a wonderful Christmas. Only a few more days left of 2016 so as we go into 2017 I thought it would be nice to reflect on the good things that happened in 2016. Yes, 2016 was a really tough year (for almost everybody) but it did have its good parts. So instead of dwelling on the bad parts (which were many) I’m taking a look back to see some of the good things came out of 2016.

This blog was born. I started it in January just for the Parson x Teen Vogue Course I was doing but I ended up really loving it. I fell in love with the writing part of blogging (which surprised me) so decided to really give it a go.

My best friend moved back to Uganda this year! Well technically she moved back here in December last year, but I didn’t get to see her (in person) until January so to me, she moved back this year. After 5 LONG years of her being a continent away she’s finally back here with me!

I got accepted into a university! It was something I didn’t think would happen to me because my high school transcripts are complicated (I’ve had so many people give their opinions on the direction my life should take. They influenced my mum and I’s decisions making us decide things I probably wouldn’t have on my own). Granted, I ended up not being able to attend it. It was just really nice knowing that I could get in to a university!

This year I finally made decisions for myself. I stood up to the people always giving me their opinions and trying to influence me and I decided what I wanted for the future and how I was going to get there. So I made a plan and I presented it to my mom and she loved it. Finally I was in control of my life and it was so exciting!

I learned how to sew. Well I taught myself how to sew. I did attend sewing school for about a month and a half in the first quarter of the year but I didn’t really learn anything other than gain confidence behind a sewing machine. I started sewing again at the beginning of this month and first time at it again I made an amazing bag. I surprised myself with my sewing skills.

But the best thing that happened to me this year was getting the news that my mom is officially cancer free. I debated with whether to put this in or not but since it was such a big part of the end of this year and one of the best things to happen to me in 2016 I just had to. It’s not my story to tell so I won’t tell it but believe me since my mom is a writer she will tell the story how she wants and when she is ready.

A lot more good things happened to me this year but those were just my highlights. So I guess 2016 wasn’t so bad after all. I mean still up there in the ranks of the worst years of my life but it definitely doesn’t get top spot.

Let me know some of the good things that happened to you this year in the comments below!

Thank you so much for stopping by!!
