Retail Marketing

For this assignment I had to spend some time in my local retail outlets observing store layouts, paying attention to the floor layout, the placement of items (especially sale racks) to the sides of the main walkways, and the composition and placement of displays. I was to take a picture of a particularly compelling display, then blog about why you think it works.

Bold Kampala is a retail outlet that houses over thirty up and coming designers from countries across the African continent including Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi, Nigeria, Ghana, Tunisia and South Africa. They were kind enough to let me take pictures of their displays and it was very difficult to pick just one display because all their displays are compelling.

They give each designer a space to display their creations and they also make sure the designers logo’s are fully visible. The designers most eye catching pieces are made the most visible so they draw you to their display. I love the uniqueness of Bold Kampala’s clothing racks. As you can see from the image above, the clothing racks include cubby holes to showcase accessories the clothes then have to be hang at different heights which  adds an interesting dimension to the display.

Bold Kampala has a minimalist vibe to their store yet they have way of making every single designer’s collection, no matter how bold and eclectic, seamlessly fit in with their store’s aesthetic.
